Let’s talk about Tablighi Jamaat
When you examine Islamism and Islamic Revivalism (Ihya) as global cultural and political phenomena, just behind Salafism, the Deoband and its ‘non-political’ offshoot Tablighi Jamaat (Ahl-e-Sunnah Wal-Jamat) are the most influential Islamic religious organisation and ‘non-organisation’ in the world.

In addition, like the Salafi sects, the Deoband, its offshoot Tablighi Jamaat and Barelvi incubate support for, and involvement in, subversive Sharia Politics and terrorism. Same stock, same shit, if the British government and our security services failed to chart the rapid evolution of these dangerous sects and what their heinous politics unleashed on South Asia they are woefully negligent and must be held accountable.

In summary, Tablighi Jamaat is a revivalist form of Islam. Tabligh describes the purest communication of Allah’s revelations to the last and final Prophet. Humankind is free to choose between the truth (Islam) and kufr. It is important to stress that tabligh should not entail coercion (prohibited in Quran 2:256 unless abrogated by the nutters or changed in the alternative by Islamic law subject to specific circumstances). Tabligh Jamaat is puritanical and acts subject to Allah’s injunction – revelations to his messenger and Shariáh (law).
Its mosques and clerics operate in 165 countries, with some 70-80 million members. Tablighi Jamaat holds an annual pilgrimage in Pakistan attracting two million followers.
All the Prophets of Islam reconstruct and redefine Judaic-Christian teachings in their strictest senses with each Prophet building on the teachings of their forbearers that helps define the last and final Prophet’s mission written down in the Holy Quran and his Sunnah.
Revivalism champions the beliefs and teachings of Mohammed and his Sahaba or noble companions and the Salf-e-Saliheen or greatest pious predecessors including the righteous Caliphs. The noble companions and the greatest pious predecessors continued Mohammed’s teaching and since there is no Prophet to come, every follower of Islam has a sacred obligation to communicate their Deen’s revelations, actions, words, live subject to his example and divine law (Shariah).
The Salaf Saaliheen comprise the Sahaabah, Taabi-een and Tab-e-Taabieen. These
three ages are collectively referred to as Khairul Quroon (the Best Eras). It was in
these three eras that the entire Shariah was systematically codified. All the Aimmah Mujtahideen, Muhadditheen, Mufassireen and the most illustrious Fuqaha of the Ummah flourished during the Khairul Quroon epoch.
Those who do not follow the Path of the Aimmah-e-Mujtahideen – who were all
among Salaf Saaliheen – are never on the Path of the Salaf. Imaam Abu Hanifah,
Imaam Maalik, Imaam Shaafi’, Imaam Ahmad Bin Hanbal and all the other
Aimmah-e-Mujtahideen were of this noble era.
You may read so-called experts citing Tablighi Jamaat has no formal organisational structure and that it is a decentralised voluntary pacifist movement, but its recent success in Europe and well-financed mosques dispel that idea. Like the Deoband, the name Tablighi Jamaat (as detailed above) crops up in numerous terrorism investigations and their followers form majorities in South Asian terrorist organisations.
Even a Revivalist Islamic pacifist movement creates political and violent Islamic extremism because Islamic fundamentalism and ‘struggle’ easily morph into violent extremism and Jihad. Some Revivalist Sects may vehemently oppose violence but they support Sharia Politics that incubates Islamic extremism.
It baffles me that our political establishment, security services and law enforcement fail to look at these sects as incubators for extremism and terror. They fail to determine their teachings are a pathway (cognitive opening) to subversive forms of Islam and violence.
I have debated many Deoband and Tablighi Jamaat on social media and in private both as a Muslim and non-Muslim and kept very careful records of all my exchanges. I have often sought the same Muslims many months after our initial exchanges in a different guise to test their politics. I intend to make those debates public without identifying the individuals. I have over 400 online debates and private chats with Muslims since 2014 and purposefully targeted Mend Community and The Muslim Council of Great Britain from 2015 to clock up 1000s of hours of debate.
One thing clear from my own research and support from apostates and Muslims in South Asia, to describe the Deoband as Hanafi misses the point completely. Most Muslims in South Asia are historically Hanafi but the Deoband draw on extremely well-researched Traditional Islamic Theology and Classical Shariah teachings. Any Sunni Muslim or their children can attend their schools and mosques to ‘benefit’ from their fundamentalist teachings.
I want to point out that Anjem Choudary presents Traditional Islamic Theology, Classical Shariah teachings and the same political positions as many militant political and insurgent ISLAMIC REVIVALISTS in Africa and Asia. To describe him as Salafist because he advocates violence also misses the point. Choudary is an outspoken Deobandi Islamist who advocates armed and violent struggle to impose Caliphate and Sharia State.
What binds Islamic fundamentalist (Islamist and Revivalist) groups?
- A call to cleanse society and enforce Sharia
- Anti-colonialism and anti-imperialist political rhetoric using current affairs and historical facts
- Institutionalised Anti-Semitism mixed with conspiracy theories and views ranging from the absurd to both plausible and probable to reinforce ideas of Judaic-Christian conspiracies and order working against Islam
- Mistrust of international organisations like the IMF, NATO, the World Bank and World Trade Organization deemed the tools of imperialists
Mainstream Muslim academia expertly manipulates these issues to present Islamic Theology and Classical Sharia in modern contexts and expound clash of civilisations theory from the Islamic perspective.
About ten years ago, Islam reached a tipping point when Islamist and Revivalist groups became dominant political forces and protagonists at Islam’s grassroots via mainstream Muslim academia, education (most important) and mosque politics. It is my view that happened in Western countries from the eighties onwards and from the late nineties, a range of factors exacerbated our problems to create fundamentalist Muslim majorities throughout the European Union.
I have charted the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in both Britain and France to prove my views and consider the politicisation of Islam, increasing Islamic terror and ISIS recruitment the clearest warnings to the West that worse is yet to come. The recent grooming and child rape scandals rocking Britain and Europe are byproducts of an obscene patriarchal morality culture, religious hatred and supremacy, and racism.
I describe the politicisation of Traditional Islamic Theology and struggle to achieve Classical Shariah communities as “Sharia Politics”. It has very little to do with individual religious rights. I describe Islam as an organism with many interdependent parts designed to achieve that common purpose. Is Islam’s DNA or root, the material that creates those parts, religion or politics? It depends. Islam adapts and responds to its environment. In the West, Islam is Shariah Politics. The goal of most Muslim majorities and minorities is to live subject to Sharia.
I oppose Islam because of Sharia Law. Sharia Law is antithetical. Wherever Muslims land, grievance and violence are divine when Shariah cannot crush freedom of conscience and expression. Grievance and violence under the cover of Muslim civil rights are part of a systematic passive-aggressive political process obvious in every social democracy that welcomed Muslims.
Political Islam (Islamism and Shariah Politics) is a parasite – the hosts are secular democracies. Sharia politics incubates religious extremism and terror. The solution to our problem in the west is simple – take that goal off the table – do it smartly. Knowledgeable single issue protestors conclude the same. Reaching these conclusions through research and study makes me Far Right. What separates me and many secular Muslims from the FARs are our political motivations and solutions.
Additional key factors: opposition to, and condemnation of, both Israel and the United States for their policies on Palestine. I see this as a common denominator and unifying factor built around Islam’s doctrinal and institutionalised anti-Semitism. Sunni groups (most notably Al Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood and Taliban) all share solidarity with the Palestinians (Hamas), and even Shia Hezbollah. I exclude ISIS (Daesh) for several good reasons. In addition, grudges against the US and its allies for the invasion of Iraq and their continued presences in Afghanistan and the Levant are tools used to politicise Islam that radicalise Muslims. Opposition to India’s hold over the disputed Himalayan state of Kashmir is no longer specific to Pakistani militant groups. Africa shows us in graphic and horrific detail how Islam destabilises countries and regions without serious opposition.
Islam could be a religion of peace, but it is not, is it?
The highest type of Jihad which is known is to wage war against the enemies of Islam in order to raise the words of Allah in which a Mujahid scarifies his life and wealth. It is also Jihad to keep the self suppressed, controlled and going against its will on the path of Shariah. According to the Sufis, it is Jihad-e-Akbar is to struggle for reforming the self and enlightening the heart. والمجاهد من جاهد نفسه
